Finally, Davido pays Chioma’s bride price

Singer Davido has paid the bride price (Umunna) in full for Chioma Rowland, also known as Chef Chi, at Ezeala Odu, Imo State.
The singer paid the mandatory dowry to Chioma’s kindred in Owerre, Nkworji Ezeala Ofu, Nkwerre Local Government Area of Imo State.
In photos and video posted online, Chioma’s dad could be seen performing the Umunna rites and Umuada rites.
The second phase of an Igbo wedding is the Umunna rites, a meeting between the groom’s family and the bride’s extended family, where the groom’s people have to restate their interest in marrying from the bride’s family in the presence of her Umunna (direct and extended family, with family elders). Once consent has been secured, date for the traditional wedding will be set and the bride price list will be sent out. The groom takes a few gifts such as kola nuts, palm wine, beer, soft drinks, tobacco, snuff and a goat, which will be shared between the groom and bride’s family.
Earlier reports said Davido and Chioma had the traditional marriage rites in November 2022, following the loss of their son, Ifeanyi.
The social media reports claimed Davido secretly got married to Chioma after their son’s death in a domestic accident.
The traditional marriage, which was done in his father’s house, had a few family friends in attendance with no camera allowed.
According to the report, Chioma’s bride price had been paid in full.
This is coming shortly after Davido’s earlier vow to marry Chioma in the coming year, but after the tragedy, the singer took the plunge.
The traditional marriage was held on November 6, to console Chioma and assure her of her place with Davido.
