Barely 24 hours after the Supreme Court, Abuja, affirmed the victory of Governor Ademola Adeleke in the Osun State governorship election, former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has sent congratulations to his major opponent in the July 2022 polls that saw him losing his second term bid to govern the state.
Congratulating his rival, Oyetola, in a statement he personally signed, charged Adeleke to deliver good governance to the people of Osun State.
He also asked his suppodters to accept the outcome in good faith. He stated that they presented a good case but the court thought otherwise.
The Supreme Court, on Tuesday, said Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) failed to prove the claim of being deprived victory on account of improper accreditation of voters and over-voting on the part of Adeleke and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The five justices stated that Oyetola’s appeal against the Court of Appeal’s ruling reinstating Adeleke, after the governorship election tribunal sacked him, lacked merit.
The former governor said: “To the Osun Governor, Senator Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke, I take this opportunity to congratulate you on your victory at the Supreme Court.
“While I pray for your tenure to be prosperous for our people and the state, I urge you to focus on the delivery of good governance.
“Whatever personal differences we have must give way to the advancement of our great state. The security of the Osun people must be guaranteed, regardless of their religious and political affiliations. I pray for peace and progress in your tenure.”
Oyetola called on members of the APC to accept the verdict in good faith.
