It was all fun, education and entertainment recently at Good Beach, Victoria Island, Lagos, as specialists, health and wellbeing enthusiast gathered for a hybrid event that mixed fun fare, exercise and awareness for participants.

The occasion, tagged “Go Yellow and Dance for Endo,” had in attendance vibrant ladies and gentlemen all dressed in yellow T-shirts for an aerobic dance session.

The event, put together by ESGN and co-sponsored by MTN, started with fun, laughter, mingling with friends and relaxation by the beach side.

Then the music started buzzing and, promptly, dance instructors mounted the stage and the dance session kicked off. The instructors (male and female) taught different dance steps, from ballet to zumba, afro juju, calypso, hip-hop and so on. It was a fun-filled time all through as the dancers tried vigorously to catch up with the instructors.

Speaking to journalists at the forum, Dr. Abayomi Ajayi, the patron of Endometriosis Support Group, Nigeria, ESGN, and founder, Nordica Fertility, said the essence of the programme was to promote the awareness of endometriosis in Nigeria.

“Yellow is the colour of endometriosis awareness, and the month of March worldwide is earmarked for endometriosis awareness,” he said.

According to Ajayi, his team chose dance because they wanted to attract the attention of more younger people: “That is simply why we are using dance as a vehicle to raise this awareness in 2023.”

Giving a peep into the life of a person living with endometriosis, a condition that affects the lining of the uterus, causing premenstrual pain and dysmenorrhea, the ESGN patron said: “Every month, when she sees her period, life literally comes to a stop. Endometriosis occurs in roughly 6 to 10 per cent of women.
“The condition affects about 190 million women and girls around the world.”
