To commemorate International Literacy Day (ILD), Lagos Ikoyi Lions Club, Zone District 404 1A with other clubs in Zone 1A celebrated ILD with a motherless babies home, situated at 1, Kenneth Agbakuru Street, Off Admiralty Way Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.

ILD 2021, which is celebrated all over the world on September 8, with the theme: Literacy for a human –cantered recovery: Narrowing the digital divide, is aimed to raise awareness and concern for literacy problems that exist within the local countries as well as globally.

Lagos Ikoyi Club President, Lion Abdulkarim Yusuf, and his team in Zone 1A, presented 400 customized Lions Club big notes with other educational textbooks, story books, novels and writing materials to the home.

In appreciation of the club’s gesture, the Matron, Mrs Adebambo, represented by the chief nurse, said the books provided would further inform, educate and enlightened the children.

Chairperson, Zone 1A, Lions District 404 A1, Soledotun Abdulkarim Yusuf, also the chairperson Marketing and Communication of Lagos Ikoyi Lions Club, said it is necessary to felicitate with the home to celebrate the day, and emphasised the importance of ILD and the need for the home to have a library.

Also, Dame Rebecca Aikhomu and Dr. Ngozi Nwosu applauded the zone chairperson , the club president and other Lions members in the zone for their unflinching commitments to the club.

In 1966, UNESCO declared September 8 as International Literacy Day, marking its observance on a global scale.
