As Nigerians gradually rerurned to the daily grind of life after the Christmas and New Year festivities, pandemonium was let loose in Ekiti State, as the news of the sudden death of a popular herbalist broke on Tuesday. The celebrated native doctor allegedly died after intercourse with a pastor’s wife at a hotel in Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
On Monday, January 2, 2023, Fadayomi Kehinde, aka Ejiogbe, a tradifionalist and acclaimed juju priest, reportedly lodged in a hotel with a married woman whose husband was the pastor of a white garment church in the same town.
Immediately after the two had sex, sources said the herbalist collapsed. His lover raised the alarm, crying for help from the hotel’s staff.
It was gathered that staff and some associates of the herbalist took him to a hospital immediately, where he was confirmed dead.
The remains of Ejiogbe have been deposited at the Ekiti State Specialist Hospital morgue in Ikere.
There are speculations about the cause of the herbalist’s death, as many believe it was a backlash from “magun,” a diabolical charm or spell (literally meaning “don’t climb”) placed on married women by their husbands to prevent adultery and wreck lovers who “climb” the women. Usually, the charm it ‘engineered’ and administered by native doctors.
Shortly after the news reached town, irate supporters of the herbalist went in search of the pastor and vandalised his church in reprisal. The identity and whereabouts of the pastor have yet to be ascertained.
Reports indicated the married woman was arrested and is in protective custody to facilitate investigations and also to protect her from the angry mob.
Police public relations officer for the Ekiti State Command, DSP Sunday Abutu, while confirming the death of Ejiogbe, said the woman, who was not named, was helping the police with their investigations.
He explained that the police received a report from the hotel and they visited the scene to take control of the situation and prevent a breakdown of law and order. The body of the deceased was taken to the hospital and Ejiogbe was confirmed dead.
