Princess Anne Inyang, famously known for her evergreen gospel song, Akanamkwe and other praise/worship songs, recently held a birthday bash for her mum, Mrs. Mayen Inyang.
The elegant and creative artiste, now based in Canada (though was not physically present) ensured the occasion was solid with fun, lots to eat and drink, good music, comedy and a beautiful ambience.
According to her, her spirit, soul and body were at the venue but she couldn’t attend ‘physically due to studies and warming up for examinations. She watched everything virtually.
The event, which took place in Ibadan where her mother resides, had in attendance mostly family – siblings, grand children, great grandchildren, cousins, aunts, uncles and in-laws.
Speaking in a telephone conversation, Princess Anne said she was full of joy as God has kept her mum alive to witness 80 years on earth.
“I thought it wise to celebrate her while she is alive than wait to do a lavish burial. “My mom was so joyful and surprised at seeing people she had not seen in a long time.
“We tried to bring most of her grand-children and great-grand-children together so she could behold them…., even the latest great-grand-child.
She has six children, 20 grand-children and 19 great-grand-children.”
Princess Anne got her friends and family members, all over the world, who could not attend, to send video messages to her. What a joy that gave her!”
In her words: “My mom really went through a lot to raise us singlehandedly after our father’s demise and she never remarried!
“She sold anything saleable, from making and selling fufu, all kinds of fruits to cooking…
“At one point, she worked with African Petroleum, Lagos as a cook in the canteen before having her own restaurant in Tejuosho market in Yaba, Lagos – just to provide for us. “Even though she was not educated, she believed so much in education…
“She’s a mom like no other…!”
